For years, I have worked in an industry that is often invisible.
I have cleaned homes, built a business, led teams, listened to people, entered hundreds of homes and witnessed countless stories.
Some were difficult.
Some were inspiring.
And many were incredibly funny.
Those experiences became Diary of a Cleaner.
This book is not only about cleaning.
It is about immigration, entrepreneurship, motherhood, faith, resilience, dignity and the human stories behind a profession that is often overlooked.
As an immigrant mum building a life and a business in Australia, cleaning became much more than work for me. It became a way to understand people, create opportunities, support families and discover just how much we can learn when we truly pay attention to the lives around us.
Over the years, I have seen how much happens behind closed doors.
A cleaner does not simply walk into a house to wipe benches, vacuum floors or clean bathrooms. We step into people’s routines, their busy mornings, their celebrations, their difficult seasons, their family dynamics and sometimes even the quiet moments nobody else sees.
And through all of that, we learn.
We learn about people.
We learn about life.
We learn about resilience.
And very often, we learn to laugh.
One question inspired much of this book:
Have you ever wondered what a cleaner sees, hears and learns by entering people’s homes every day?
Now, some of those stories are finally on the page.
Diary of a Cleaner was written with a lot of love. It was also written with the intention of finding the lessons life gives us, even in challenging moments, and never losing sight of the lighter and funnier side of the journey.
I hope this book can make people laugh, reflect and perhaps look differently at the person who walks through their door to clean their home or workplace.
Because behind every cleaner there is a person.
A family.
A story.
Responsibilities.
Dreams.
And a life that may never be visible to the client.
And this book would not exist without the people who became part of my journey.
To every client who has trusted Multitasking Mum, recommended us to a friend, purchased a cleaning package, sent us a kind message, offered us a coffee, welcomed our cleaners or simply treated our team with kindness:
you are part of this journey too. đź’ś
Thank you for helping an immigrant mum turn cleaning into a business, and now turn years of memories into a book.
Multitasking Mum has always been about more than cleaning. It is about care, trust, relationships and making people’s everyday lives a little easier.
And in many ways, Diary of a Cleaner is an extension of that same purpose.
It is a collection of stories from a world that most people only see from the outside — told from the perspective of someone who has lived it, built a business within it and learned to see beauty, humour and meaning in even the most ordinary moments.
I truly hope you enjoy reading Diary of a Cleaner as much as I loved bringing these stories to life.
